How to be productive, not busy.

A lot of the time in our business, we spend time being busy—but we don't necessarily spend our time being PRODUCTIVE. What I mean by “being productive” is doing things that are actually going to bring in revenue and move the business forward.

So let’s talk about how we can shift our focus and prioritise the tasks that will actually move the needle in business.

Scheduling to avoid the Danger Zone

I’ve been talking a lot lately about what I call “the danger zone”, when you’re wearing multiple hats at once and your responsibilities all seem to overlap. (And generally… everything goes pear shaped!)

Well this topic has resonated with so many of you because my inbox and DMs have absolutely LIT UP with so many of you sharing that you feel like you’re constantly on the edge of “the danger zone”, or in many cases feel like you’re constantly living in it!

5 Steps to Planning your 2023 Calendar

How often do you think about a phrase you heard as a teenager or young adult (that made you roll your eyes at the time) but then realise, in retrospect, it was actually incredibly accurate?

For me it was: “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.”

Hearing that as a teenager when I was meant to be studying for exams…  it didn’t really resonate! But now? No truer words have ever been spoken!

My secret weapon for a successful day

I used to think “morning routines” were for celebrities or, at the very least, people without children.

But friends, I’m now a person with a morning routine (and 3 children!) and this tiny piece of self care has been a game changer in supporting my physical and mental health and setting me up for success each day.

And it all started with a sports bra. (We’ll get to the sports bra bit in a sec).

3 Productivity Hacks You Need

You might have heard me talk about some of my favourite time management techniques in the past, those being the Pomodoro Technique and Deep Work sessions.

While these are excellent strategies for when you need to dive in and get good chunks of work done, there’s other tricks I turn to when it comes to trying to “win back” a few extra minutes in my day—ideally minutes that I can spend alone, in silence, with a hot cup of tea in mind hand! 😉

6 Signs You're Fast Approaching Burnout

We all thought 2020 threw us out of kilter… and then came 2021. Between the endless lockdowns, homeschooling and juggling our businesses (that felt like their doors were closed more than they were opened some months) you’d be more than forgiven for just feeling DONE with the year!

But there’s a difference between that feeling of being DONE (that a good holiday could probably fix 😉) and BURNOUT.

Let’s talk about the signs of burnout, and what you can do to try and reverse them.

How to create a To Do List that works

Today, we're going to be talking about something that is very close to my heart, my to do list!

I know that sounds completely pathetic, but seriously, without my to-do list, I can not function. And I'm not sure whether this has been something that has been part of my life since I was a teenager or whether it's something that's really just kind of kicked in my thirties, but I find that my to-do list is like the pillar of strength that keeps me going from day to day, week to week.

Here’s how you can “have it all”

If you were born in the 80s like me, you were probably told that you could have it all.

“Do what you want to do, be what you want to be, yea-eah!” (You definitely just sang that like I did, didn’t you!) You probably grew up with your mum telling you “You can be anything you want to be.”

But what we weren’t told was that the pursuit of “anything you want to be” was going to take a juggling act like the Moscow Circus has never seen.

Finding more hours in your day IS possible

Have you heard of Parkinson’s Law? It’s the idea that work expands to fill the time available for its completion.

So for example, if you know you have three hours to write a press release it will probably take you three hours to write it. Whereas if you only have 40 minutes—you’ll find a way to get it done in those 40 minutes available. Parkinson's Law fits with lots of other things in life too; whatever you're earning is probably what you're going to spend.

Guilt, overwhelm and burnout ...

Many of us experience feelings of GUILT in our lives, especially when we become mothers. We feel guilty when we are at work because we think we should be at home with the kids. We feel guilty when we leave work at 3pm to pick up the kids and taxi them to their activities because our co-workers are staying until 5pm.

Too much guilt can make you start to feel OVERWHELMED. You know that feeling of a Sunday afternoon when you start to get anxious about the week ahead? The, ‘I don’t know how I am going to get to Friday’ feeling…

5 Steps for overcoming Mum Guilt

Well all know that nagging feeling of spending time at work wishing we were at home with the kids, and then subsequently being at home with the kids thinking “I really must get back to all of the things I need to get done for work”!

There’s nothing worse than that to-and-fro feeling that you’re not giving enough to any aspects of your existence; like you just can’t win no matter how hard you try. It’s called Mum Guilt and we all experience it… but we don’t have to.

Mastering Time Management

For way too long in my business I felt like I was the only one struggling; that I was the only one going to bed every night with 100 to dos in my mind and waking up in the morning thinking I’m never going to get through it all. It look me many, many years to get systems in place that helped start to break that feeling of overwhelm. Now that I have a system that works, I don’t want to keep it to myself!
